Croydon notice to allotment holders

Update: 17/3/2020

From: David White, Croydon Programme Manager – Active Lifestyles

To: Croydon Allotment Committees

” Following the government advice on Monday 16th March 2020 to limit non-essential travel and social gatherings I wanted to clarify the position of the Croydon Allotment Service.

Croydon Allotments: Direct managed allotment sites for now remain open but we strongly advise all plot-holders to follow government and NHS advice on reducing the risk of spreading the Covid-19 Coronavirus (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/)

Cultivation Guidance & Inspections: Spring (April) inspections will be cancelled indefinitely and we are going to delay communication of our updated cultivation guidance. As a service we feel it would be contradictory to government advice to enforce cultivation standards at a time when people are advised to avoid non-essential travel. Information and further update on summer inspections will be communicated in due course. All plot-holders should be assured that cultivation standards won’t be enforced without sufficient notice during this period of disruption.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at allotments@croydon.gov.uk if you have any questions.

Kind regards

David White
